Breaking Down Traditional Subject-Matter Silos

The curriculum has been aligned by a third party (UNCC Director of STEM Education) to the Core Content standards, Science & Engineering Standards and ELA standards.  It is a powerful tool for breaking down the traditional subject-matter silos. When implemented as a school-wide industry, engineering course for science or math credit, or as an out-of-school club, students of all interests can find a way to contribute, learn and practice a profession they are interested in pursuing.

In education today, we are often program-heavy and systems-light. Ten80's Student Racing Challenge curriculum and coalition is a catalyst for real change and acceleration in partner schools and organizations.

The Student Racing Challenge curriculum is presented in two major formats. The first is a linear approach in which one activity follows another. This is the best starting-place for educators and students new to project-based learning and cross-curricular teaching. The second is the "divide & conquer" approach for educators and teams with extensive project experience. Of course, Ten80's goal is to help guide all teams into a non-linear approach to setting goals, planning how to meet them and ultimately achieving them.

Informal Learning Environments

Presented in a number of formats, the curriculum facilitates camps, 5-10 week projects and year-round clubs.
